Finding Peace in a Turbulent World: An Introduction to Buddhism and Meditation | Saturday Morning Course
This course consists of six weeks in-person followed by a day retreat.
Starting from Saturday 1st November 10:00am - 12:30pm
This lively six-week course offers a practical and inspiring introduction to Buddhist practice within the Triratna Community. You’ll get a real taste of Buddhism and discover how the Buddha’s down-to-earth advice can bring greater contentment, purpose, and fulfilment into everyday life.
Across the course, we’ll guide you through four meditation practices, share the story of the Buddha, and explore his teachings—always connecting them back to your own experience and the challenges of the modern world. Through short talks, guided meditations, and small-group discussions, we will explore the real-world effects of applying ancient wisdom directly to our lives today.
The programme follows the Buddha’s Threefold Path of Ethics, Meditation, and Wisdom:
Ethics – learning how positive actions transform both us and the world around us.
Meditation – calming the restless, busy mind and finding stillness amidst life’s turbulence.
Wisdom – glimpsing the Buddha’s Enlightenment and discovering a richer, more fascinating way of seeing the world.
Whether you’re looking to start on a Buddhist path or simply curious about meditation, this course offers practical tools and fresh perspectives to help you live with greater ease and clarity.
Join Pasannacitta and Shuddhanara, along with the rest of the team, beginning Saturday 1st November, 10:00am - 12:30pm, at the Nottingham Buddhist Centre. The course lasts for six weeks and concludes with a day retreat on the Saturday 20th December.
accessibility
We warmly welcome everyone, but unfortunately due to the age of our building and costs to renovate, sadly our space currently has limited accessibility for wheelchair users or those unable to use stairs.
There is a fold out ramp leading to the ground floor entrance, but please note that the shrine room—where many of our courses and events take place—is upstairs and not wheelchair accessible.
Our drop in meditations often take place solely in the downstairs space, but our toilets are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
While we don’t have an accessible toilet, there are handrails for support. If you'd like to visit or discuss any specific needs, please reach out and contact us at info@nottinghambuddhistcentre.org. We're happy to offer a tour of the building and will do our best to make your visit as comfortable as possible.
HOW TO BOOK
We run everything at the Nottingham Buddhist Centre on a donation basis, we don't charge for our courses as we want them to be available to everyone regardless of their financial situation. We do ask for a donation to the Centre at the time of booking if possible, as these generous donations allow us to keep our doors open, and open to all.
If you are able to, we ask that you donate £95 or whatever amount you can to the Centre at the time of booking this course. If you are unable to donate at this time you are still very welcome on the course, in which case please email info@nottinghambuddhistcentre.org to request a place.
(Please note: A donation made at the time of booking is not a payment for the course. As such, we cannot offer a refund if you do not attend the course. You would of course, as always, be welcome to attend any of our future introductory offerings.)
If you want to find out more before booking then please attend one or two of our drop-in meditation classes which you can find here. We also have some recorded on our youtube channel.
