A Gesture of Awakening
Weekend Retreat with Paramananda

Saturday 5th - Sunday 6th April 2025 (10am - 5pm both days)

Open to all who have completed an introductory course.

According to myth, the Buddha confirmed his enlightenment by making the gesture of touching the earth. We can extend this idea of "mudra" to the whole body where the posture becomes an expression of our intention and an affirmation of our faith.

In this weekend retreat we will be exploring how meditation can be understood and practiced in a psycho-energetic way, placing emphasis on our physical experience as opposed to our conceptual experience.

Along with sitting, the retreat will include some gentle body work and will take place largely in silence. The retreat will also include ritual practice.

Paramananda is a widely respected meditation teacher who has led classes and retreats both in the UK and internationally. Ordained in 1985, Paramananda has authored several popular books on meditation and Buddhist practice, including The Myth of Meditation, Change Your Mind, A Deeper Beauty, and The Body.

He has dedicated his life to the deep exploration of meditation, offering a unique approach that integrates beauty, myth, sound, mantra, and somatic experience to deepen practice. As he no longer leads weekend retreats at centres, this is a truly special opportunity practice with a well-established Order Member in our very own Centre.
