WEEK 2
HOME PRACTICE
1.) Make an effort to try to pay attention to your habits of consumption this week and notice when you find craving in your experience:
What am I trying to get from this thing?
Will it work? Has it worked in the past?
Is there something more positive I can do instead?
Can I live with more simplicity and contentment this week?
Can I enjoy living simply, rather than find it a burden?
Can I try to buy the bare minimum this week, to give myself a taste of freedom?
Can I even try a ‘buy nothing’ day and literally not spend a penny?
2.) Use your journal each evening to note how you got on in your battle with consumerism!
You might make one resolution each evening to practice the following day, and record it in the journal
And if you want to keep up the gratitude journal, feel free to do so
3.) Download and read the PDF for Week Three: Climate and Environmental Emergency (CEE) and how to respond
4.) Download the Brahma Viharas PDF here

If you’d like to go deeper into the Brahma Viharas, The Buddhist Centre online have a week long schedule of material you can follow from home, put together by Ratnavandana, the order member mentioned in Padmasakhi’s talk! Click here to be redirected to the page.
Padmasakhi writes: Ratnavandana is an experienced Order Member who has dedicated over 40 years of her live to practicing the Brahma Viharas meditations.
Ratnavandana says "For me one of the most essential ingredients of living in the mandala of Buddhist practice is my conscious intention to develop in my life the four qualities listed above: the Brahma Viharas – literally ‘Divine Abodes‘.I truly wish to be a channel for these qualities to manifest in the world. And my wish has become my compass, which continually lets me know whether I am on the right track. It generally guides and inspires me to keep trying."
In this retreat she guides us through this beautiful mandala of practices using symbols and mantras drawing on her own extensive experience.
