The Nottingham Buddhist Centre and Climate Emergency

As the Council of the Nottingham Buddhist Centre, we recognise that we are in a time of dire climate and ecological emergency, where all forms of life, including our own, are in peril.

This is a difficult and heart-breaking truth, and it is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. Yet, as ever, our Buddhist practices offer us the teaching and support to ongoingly turn towards reality, to things as they are. As Triratna Buddhists we are inspired by the Bodhisattva Ideal -- motivated by the wish to face also into this reality -- for the sake of all beings. Through our practices of meditation, of ethics (the principles of kindness, generosity, contentment, honesty and mindfulness), and of spiritual community (Sangha), we support ourselves and each other as we each make our own decisions about how to respond.

This is a fierce training ground. We stand in solidarity with all those who act in the spirit of nonviolence, bravely and vulnerably facing into this emergency.
