big weekend People of colour retreat, Adhisthana

The 'Big Weekend’ residential is set to be something special with people of colour arriving from all around the UK, for the first national retreat of its kind.  Set in the beautiful rolling hills of the Herefordshire countryside, this retreat offers the chance to connect, with ourselves and the each other, from all parts of the people of colour community across the UK.

Led by Amaragita, Chair of Buddhafield, Suryagupta, Chair of London Buddhist Centre, Aryavachin and Bodhilila, Chair of West London Buddhist Centre, we'll be in for a real treat of teachings, guidance, connection and celebration coming from a depth of practice and experience.

The essence of a retreat is simplicity and connection. There are no distractions like TV, radio or newspapers. The day is structured with guided meditation, talks, sharing in groups and there is a simple vegan menu (special dietary requirements are catered for). Tasks like preparing and serving meals, washing up and cleaning are shared in small teams organised in a rota. If it’s not your turn to do a job you are free to relax, sleep or go for a walk and enjoy the natural area, with guided walks.

For some of us being somewhere unfamiliar, amongst people we don’t know well can be a daunting prospect. Rest assured that being on retreat is different - the venue, the setting, the programme, the talks and the groups are all held in a way to help us deepen, to quieten and to connect with ourselves more authentically as well as developing and deepening connections with others.

The cost for attending the retreat from Friday 26 to Monday 29 May is:

  • Waged £145

  • Unwaged £110

Bursary places are also available.

There is even a transport option from the London Buddhist Centre to help you get there on Friday and drop you back on Monday. The coaches will depart from London Buddhist Centre on the Friday 26 May at midday and return on Monday 29 May, departing 2.30pm. Coach tickets are charged at £60 return, which is great value for money.

Open to both newcomers and those who have been practising for some time.
